About Hinda

I drove across the United States of America from New York to Alaska several times. There are a million of things to see and learn about different things outside of New York, and to bring it back into our community. How can we bring it back? Art is a wonderful way to express our experience and we can use variety of mediums. After creating the artwork, we can discuss on the processes, influences, and impacts it has on all of us. Art bridges our communities into one place and to get a better understanding of different cultures. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Rochester Institute of Technology. My primary language is American Sign Language and I am focused on a special topic; De'VIA (Deaf View Image Art), this art style and movement concentrate on express our personal experience as a Deaf person, using specific motifs, colors, themed work. It is a way of connecting with people of other cultures to learn, interpret, and discuss about De'VIA artwork, and also for me to learn, interpret, and discuss about your cultures through your artworks. I also like to create bicultural or multicultural artworks for example; Jewish Deaf Woman, Deafblind woman, Black Deaf, and more.

My first language is ASL and I have been signing my whole life. I am a second generation of deaf family, there are third and fourth generations in my big circle. We all use American Sign Language and other foreign sign languages. I was involved in the theatre for ASL poetry for several years. I won the grand prize winner as Rochesterian Poet of the Year in recognition performance at the poetry and music contest. I have taught ASL classes at the camps in different levels; the first time learner and years of signing experience. I do enjoy filming ABC and ASL stories.

A sketchbook and markers are always in my bag, I carry them to anywhere I go. Landscape drawing, portrait, mixed media, painting, De'VIA, ASL poetry, Mime, sculpture, Adobe Illustration, Photoshop, iMovie, drawing apps, and the list goes on.

Please feel free to ask me anything related to ASL and art. I am more than happy to answer your questions. Each of us are unique, we can benefit learning from each other through ASL and art.
