I worked as a paraprofessional for the NYC Department of Education for a little over 3 years. I worked in general education and special education. I worked mostly with children who have physical, cognitive, and social-emotional disabilities in pre-k through fifth grade. I was also a student teacher for 4 months in kindergarten through second grade. I also worked in a preschool for a year with children ages two-four years old. All of my experience encourages me to tutor with the child's help and ability. I have a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a paraprofessional, I worked with many children with ADD/ADHD. I also tutored a boy for 2 years with ADHD and was able help him concentrate throughout the tutoring sessions.
As a paraprofessional, the population I worked with the most is children with autism. In many different classrooms and age groups, I have learned a lot about autism. I am currently completing my masters in occupational therapy and would like to work with children who have been diagnosed with autism when I graduate.

I have a bachelors degree in early childhood education, which means I understand how much handwriting means to a child and how much it could affect their education. I also volunteered with an occupational therapist at a Handwriting Without Tears group.
Phonics is vital in the early childhood age group which is why I have an early childhood degree. I took courses in my undergrad to understand why phonics is so important and how to educate children in phonics. I have experience working in a classroom and educating children on sound and spelling.
I have helped many children learn how to read, especially phonics and blending words.
