Touro College (Education)
My name is Danielle. I am a certified teacher's assistant and I work full time at a school in Staten Island. I am currently enrolled in Touro College, and I studying Elementary Education. Tutoring has always been a passion for me.
I have helped students of all ages for many years, but I enjoy guiding the little ones to success. I believe that although learning new things can be challenging, it is possible with a little help. My sessions consist of personalized lessons for each child, since each child learns differently.
Before our sessions begin, I will have the child (or parent) fill out a questionnaire to give me an idea of what the most successful learning strategies would be. I believe children should have a great deal of fun while learning, which is why I bring many hands on materials that children enjoy. I also use a reward system, so the student is more encouraged. Each week (or day) will bring your child happiness, enjoyment, and most important- achievement. All that is requested of your child is to have a notebook and pencil ready. I will supply a folder for your child, where a progress report will be kept. For more information, please contact me. Happy Learning!!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The Common Core standards are challenging to young students. With nurturing and support, children can succeed in understanding what is expected of them via the Common Core. Working in the Board of Education within a classroom for two years has given me direct insight to topics from the Common Core as well as ideas and strategies to teach them.
I am currently a Teacher's assistant in a NYC public school. I have been helping all types of students within elementary age. I believe that students this young need to learn without realizing that they are. For example, playing fun educational games that serve a purpose will aid these children in memorizing and comprehending. Also hands on activities such as coloring, cutting and pasting projects based on a specific subject will keep students engaged, happy and learning. I will provide many different strategies to teach elementary students and have them succeed in whatever subject they are struggling in!
