Wagner College (Graduate Coursework)
Hi! My name is Allie!
I graduated college in 2014 with a bachelors in Education and Psychology. Throughout my undergraduate years, I did field work in many schools where I live! By doing this, I learned what to teach, how to teach, and developed a great relationship with many students your age! I am currently in my last semester of graduate school and will be getting my degree in Literacy. I love to read! Do you? Literacy is my specialty. I love phonics, reading, and writing! Reading brings me to another place and makes me feel that I am the one in the book with the characters!
As far as tutoring goes, I have been tutoring since my senior year of high school. I've had 7 years of experience in working with students to achieve their goals by assisting them! Wow, that's a lot of experience! I have tutored in ELA, Math, Italian, and Science. I love tutoring because it allows me to work one-on-one with a student and get to know all about his/her needs so that we could address them appropriately. My goal is help YOU achieve your goals! Therefore, we are learning together and you are teaching me how to help you! How cool?! I can't wait to learn with you!
I graduated with a degree in Education and Psychology. Within these fields, I have had to read various types of texts, allowing me to be aware of the correct grammar and vocabulary. I am also getting my masters in Literacy which allows me to know how to teach and help students with ELA!
Throughout college and doing field work experiences, I was in various schools that used Common Core. I had to write my lessons and plan accordingly with the common core curriculum. I have all the common core standards on an app on my phone so that I can always refer to them when necessary!
Literacy is a big umbrella term that addresses many components, one being handwriting. I have worked with students in pre-school who are learning to identify and write their letters. I had them write letters in clay and sand for them to understand the moves your fingers/hands make when you write the specific letters.
I'm available whenever you feel the need to contact me. Do not hesitate to ask me any questions! Hi! My name is Allie!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored students with ADHD, which has allowed me to gain an understanding of these students' specific needs. These students need various breaks, especially with sensory items like squishy balls which I have used to calm students down during their breaks. Additionally, I am certified in special education grades 1-6.
I have been working at a social skills program for students on the autism spectrum for 6 years. I have also tutored students on the autism spectrum, which has allowed me to gain an understanding of these students' specific needs. Additionally, I am certified in special education grades 1-6.
I am a certified grades 1-6 teacher. I have tutored many students in phonics and am very familiar with Orton Gillingham, a foundations phonics program. I am familiar with forming and breaking up words, as well as forming letter-sound relationships. I have used magnetic letter boards to assist students with phonics.
I am certified in special education grades 1-6. I have been in various special education classes where I was asked to address all various needs of each individual student. These students had either learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, or down syndrome. I accommodated their needs appropriately because all children do not learn the same and one size does not fit all.
