About Dina

Hi! I would be more than happy to help your bright child improve in school and get on track for this year. I love teaching students and it is one of my passions. I love when students understand what they are learning and have that "light bulb moment." I will accommodate each and every student's learning style to my lessons and will help him/her with positive, patient enforcement through encouragement and rewards/prizes to make sure my students are happy at all times and I will try to make sure that he/she begins to like school and cherish the subjects he's/she's learned if he/she hasn't already! I am capable of working with different learning styles and bring enthusiasm and fun to every lesson. I am a patient and organized tutor as well. Over the last five years, I have taught school subjects for kindergarten-college. I have experience in science, reading, writing, social, studies, math, etc. No matter the subject I teach or tutor, I believe it's important to understand each students' learning style and use that to enhance learning. As a tutor, I will do the same. I would want to make this tutoring experience a valuable experience for both myself and the student. By understanding how the student learns, it allows this to happen. I would also be prepared to help the student with homework and study for tests, as well. Hi! I would be more than happy to help your bright child improve in school and get on track for this year. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have tutored many students in math from kindergarten-college. I have received high grades on my math state exams and my math expertise is currently at the Precalculus level. I also have a great extent of knowledge about the NY common core standards and math in general, including ASVAB prep, SAT prep, SSAT prep, SHSAT prep, and G&T prep.

American History

I scored a 98 on the US History regents exam and scored a 90 or higher on every exam in US History up to this date. I garnered a 100 as a semester grade for the final semester of 11th grade through my unique studying tips and my diligent hard work in class. I also never got lower than a 95 for the class on my report card.

Biology

I have tutored many students in biology from kindergarten-college. I received high grades on all of my science state exams. I have a great extent of knowledge about the science common core standards and science in general. I am currently taking college level chemistry at the moment.

College Counseling

I help students with the transition from high school to college. I assist in the college admissions process and am familiar with numerous colleges, including their admission requirements and what they offer in terms of an individual student's chosen career path. I also help with obtaining financial aid and scholarships as well as testing and essay strategies.

Common Core

I have tutored numerous students in NY Common Core for many years. I incorporate the Common Core standards into each of my lessons. State examinations are based on the Common Core standards, so my students learn skills on academic topics and get test prep for the state test at the same time.

Elementary (K-6th)

I use innovative methods and techniques in my elementary (k-6th) curriculum because I believe in the philosophy of every student being different and unique. Although elementary education may be the easiest part of a student's academic career, I don't treat it that way. I spend a lot of time creating my lessons to ensure understanding and comprehension in all of my younger students-using their strengths and weaknesses. I also try to make lessons as a fun as possible so that students aren't begging to go home by the end of the lesson. I try to create a love of learning that will last a lifetime through my curriculum/lesson plans.

Elementary Math

I have tutored many students in math from kindergarten-college. I received high grades on my math state exams. My expertise extends all the way to Precalculus. I have a great extent of knowledge about the math common core standards and math in general. Most of the students that I've tutored have been tutored in elementary math, since the topics can sometimes be difficult in the fast pace of classroom learning. I ensure that every student understands every step of a topic/problem to make sure they are on the same page. The topics students learn in elementary school are the building blocks for future math learning in middle school and beyond.

Elementary Science

I've tutored many students in science from kindergarten-college. I received high grades on my science state exams and my expertise extents all the way to college level chemistry. I have a great extent of knowledge about the science common core standards and science in general.

English

I have a great love for books! I have read many different forms of literature in high school that are used today in classrooms nationwide. This allows me to efficiently help my students studying difficult texts such as Shakespeare, etc. I also got a 91 on my English Regents two years ago. My expertise extends all the way to college level World Literature. I also have experience in tutoring younger students in English. I helped my students combat their reading through skills, games, exercises. Their writing was improved in the same sequence and through positive encouragement/practice.

Handwriting

Handwriting is an important fundamental aspect of learning. I provide extra help and guidance in the area of handwriting through one-on-one services. Many schools and teachers brush over the area quickly because of time and resources. That is where I come in. I provide extra resources and services where the gap of classroom learning comes in.

Macintosh

I have used Macintosh computers and Apple products since I was in middle school. I am well versed in the specifics of the Mac and know all of the ways around its complicated aspects. I also know all of the best apps for education, business, etc. and can help teach you the ins and outs of the computer.

Phonics

I feel that I am qualified to tutor in phonics because I have 2 years of experience in tutoring Kindergarten through Grade 5. Furthermore, a good percentage of my tutoring was in Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2. I have assisted many children specifically with phonics and reading.

Prealgebra

I tutored many students in math from kindergarten-8th grade, received high grades on my math state exams, and am currently taking Precalculus so I have a great extent of knowledge about common core standards and math in general.

Regents

I have taught Regents prep with small groups of students and one-on-one as well. Some of my prep includes the Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2/Trig, Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry, Global History, US History, and English regents. I tutor my students by reviewing concepts, topics, and material that has been taught throughout the year.

Social Studies

I instruct students in past and modern global/national social issues. I also help students understand the geographical, historical, cultural, and political factors that influence the development of world regions. In addition, I sometimes tutor on the operation of political and economic systems.

Study Skills

I am a 2+ year veteran of grades 4-12- teaching, including extensive work in study skills instruction. I am continuing to create innovative methods of helping students employ their newly learned study skills/note-taking skills to engage in critical reading and writing in responses to literature and to be able to use their new study skills in other subjects. I have a lot to offer in the areas of study skills!

World History

I scored 87 on my Global World History Regents.
