My name is Mike and I'm an education Major at St. John's University. I have been tutoring for five years now, and my main goal is to motivate students of all ages to be open-minded life-long learners. I specialize in mathematics, including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus I, Statistics, SAT, ACT, and the NYS Regents Exams. I emphasize the fundamentals that are essential to advancing to higher levels of thinking. Personally, high school was a rough time in my life, but I was able to bounce back and attend a great university. I have had the pleasure help students learn from the mistakes I made, realize their potential, improve their grades and test scores, and establish productive habits.

I have a strong passion for teaching. There is no greater joy I get than when I am able to help students develop a learning process that works for them and enables them to learn the material their own way. Especially in math, it is important for students to develop their own understanding of the fundamentals because the more advanced levels of math build upon themselves. Most importantly, I view my job beyond teaching the curriculum; I view it as an opportunity to help students grow, develop, and improve upon essential skills, such as paying attention to detail and thinking critically. I truly love watching students gain confidence and carry that momentum forward. I look forward to seeing where their hard work and determination will lead them.

Math has always been my strongest subject, it has become second nature to me. As a student, I have always been an independent learner, making connections on my own without anyone else's assistance. I have excelled in all math classes I have taken, including AP and IB level courses. I want to help students make their education fun and to help them recognize connections that I wish someone had presented to me.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions! Thank you.

I have played the piano since I was four years old. In 2012, I took a Certificate of Merit exam and was ranked in the top two percent in the state of California for my age group. I have studied the Classical Period for most of my life, so I have learned the fundamentals about form and harmony. I have a lot of experience practicing with professional musicians, as well as performing on my own.
