I have 10 years' experience as a special education para (mainly middle school). I've worked with kids on the autism spectrum, and my own son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was six. My specialty is English and writing, although I am also proficient in math, science and social studies. I have been a community journalist for over 20 years and use this experience to engage the student. I love sports, am extremely patient, and have a great sense of humor!
I realized the importance support staff have on students success when my own son was diagnosed as a first grader. It wasn't until he received the proper services that he was able to thrive and is now a college student. Students need to understand how the information they learn can be applied in the real world. The student needs a "hook" to draw him or her into the lesson being taught.
I have passed the ATAS (Assessment for Teaching Assistant Skills) and because I've worked in New York State, I have my fingerprints on file with the NYSDOE.
Jeff hasn’t set a schedule.
