About Adehm

Hello! I'm Adehm G., a recent college graduate (with a B.A. in Film Studies). Through a tutoring job at a local center (amongst other previous tutoring experience), I have discovered a love for tutoring I did not know existed within me years ago (when I first set out to study film). As a result of this discovery, I have been pursuing tutoring far more than usual, and have trying to break into private tutoring as well (hence my being on this site).

Helping people (especially kids) is what I'd love to do with my life, and I find tutoring to be the best way to do so for me. Tutoring, as opposed to teaching, allows you to focus in on individual student's issues, and better help them with what they are having difficulties with. I can also better change my tutoring methods to suit the kids I'm teaching - something a teacher in a school with large classes cannot easily do.

The way I tutor is dependent on what the student needs, and what kind of person they are. I try to keep things light and informal, and inject some humor into sessions (I've found humor helps kids A LOT in learning and retaining information and material in any subject, and even in enjoying the tutoring sessions as well). I'm very flexible, and will adapt to each student's needs, and will go very far in my desire to help and assist the young of our world in growing up into successful, happy adults and members of society!

I hope to hear from some (if not most or all) of you soon! Have a great day!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

Although I have never taken the ACT, I have been tutoring for it (especially focusing on the English side of it) in a tutoring center for two years now.

Biology

Biology was one of my best subjects in high school, and I subsequently aced the biology regents. In addition to that, I have been tutoring kids in biology at a tutoring center nearby where I live for quite some time now, and I have even helped out multiple friends and family with biology (as well as other subjects and areas of study) throughout my life.

Chess

I'm not quite sure how to prove my qualifications for teaching chess, honestly. I've always been quite good at chess (not grandmaster level or anything, but really good). I know all the rules, and have played it since I was a little kid - my dad made sure of that. I was even in a chess club back in middle school, and competed in that club's chess tournament, winning second place (I would have gotten first if I wasn't so anxious and hadn't panicked when facing the guy who ended up winning first). It's honestly not hard to teach someone how to play chess. Now, how to play well - that you can't really teach. That mostly comes with practice. As they say, "practice makes perfect."

Elementary Math

Having gone through many math classes through the years, all the way up to and including precalculus, such a subject as Elementary Math is a breeze for me. Having tutored many kids in this subject in a tutoring center has also given me experiences necessary in helping them to understand the issues they are having difficulty with. It also helps that I find math fun, and thus in teaching young kids math, I try to make it fun for them. This, I have discovered, helps them to better enjoy and retain the subject and all the details involved in learning it.

English

An amateur writing, I have always considered English to be my best subject (this includes both the reading and writing sides of it). Not only has it consistently been host to my best grades throughout my years of schooling and education, but now it is the foremost subject I tutor in at a tutoring center near my place of residence.

Film

I am a film major in college, and have been for two years now. I've taken many film classes, and have even filmed a few short films of my own, as well as worked on others' films. I've also helped others both with the actual filming process, work cameras, write and edit screenplays, and edit the actual footage in software such as Final Cut Pro.

Martial Arts

I've taken martial arts for 7 years now. The martial arts I take is called "Krav Maga." It's a martial arts originating from Israel, and used both by the Israeli army and by the United States army - as well as many other countries' armies and secret (or not-so-secret) organizations. Better known as a form of "self-defense" than a martial art, I'm currently an orange belt in it (I would be higher if it weren't for college taking up most of my time during the fall and spring semesters in recent years). I know many moves and would definitely be able to tutor someone in it - but only in Krav Maga (I don't know any other form of martial arts, unfortunately).

SAT Reading

The SAT Reading test was what I got my second best score in (second to the Writing portion). In addition to that, I have been tutoring for it at a tutoring center for two years now. English is one of my best subjects (if not the best), and therefore I have had much success in tutoring kids (and even people my age or older) in SAT reading.

Writing

I have taken many Writing courses throughout my time in the education system. In addition to that, I have helped many friends and family members with their own writing (whether creative or essays), and have been tutoring at a tutoring center (as well as some private and school tutoring years ago) for a couple years now. I have also written countless essays, stories, and so on for school, and for myself, so my experience with writing is on an expert's level.
