Whether you're a beginner adult, Suzuki early childhood, or more experienced cellist, I have more than 20 years of knowledge and experience, having taught Cello, Suzuki Cello, and Chamber Music at Brooklyn College, The School for Strings (Juilliard Certification), The National Autonomous University in Mexico City, The 92nd Street Y Music School for many years, and was the first coordinator and teacher of Chamber Music at The USDAN Center for The Arts. I've performed with the National Symphony and Opera (Bellas Artes) in Mexico City, on Radio, Television, in Studio with Barry White, in Concert with Clay Aiken, with The Chautauqua Symphony, as soloist in north and south America, and recently performed in concert at the Vanderbilt Mansion on Long Island, and The Renee Weiler Concert Hall NYC. I'm currently performing and recording not only classical repertoire, but great classics from the American Songbook, Rock Classics, Musicals, and Bocelli. A graduate of The Manhattan School of Music, LaGuardia High School of Music and Arts and The Performing Arts, The School for Strings (Cert. Juilliard), and The variety of solutions I bring to teaching and playing the Cello are derived from the Russian (Heifetz), American (Alton, Juilliard), Suzuki (Behrend, sfs), and the Alexanian/Casals (Reiner) Schools, so I have a flexible approach toward creating teaching solutions for cellists of all ages. I am also fully bilingual in Spanish, have worked in Public Relations for the National Autonomous University and Orchestra of Mexico City, adept with computers and digital design, into global conservation, grow orchids, and have won prizes for nature and botanical art, and raised three daughters now in College. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received a Bachelor of Music Degree Graduate in Cello Performance in 1975 from The Manhattan School of Music, and did further graduate studies in Cello performance and music education at the Manhattan School of Music, studying Cello Performance there with Benar Heifetz and Ardyth Alton. I Graduated in 1969 with vocational music and cello studies from the LaGuardia High School of Music and Arts and The Performing Arts, and studied Cello with Samuel Reiner at the Greenwich House Music School. I was on the Suzuki Cello and Cello faculties of The School for Strings, the Brooklyn College Preparatory Music School, the cello faculties of The 92nd Street Y Music School from 1983-1990, and Assistant Cello Class Teacher 1975 to Jerome Carrington of the Juilliard Faculty, and also was coordinator and teacher of Chamber Music at The USDAN Center for The Arts from 1983 to 1986 under Director Dale Lewis at The USDAN Center for the Arts in Wyandanch L.I. . In 1976 and 1977, I played cello with the OFUNAM National Symphony, The National Opera at The Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City, and was solo cellist on Radio, Television, and in Studio work with Barry White 1976-77, played cello in Concert with Clay Aiken's Chautauqua Symphony Tour, with The Chautauqua Symphony from 1986 to 2003 under conductor Joseph Silverstein, and in October of 2012, I performed cello in concert at the Vanderbilt Mansion on Long Island, and also performed Bach and Bocherini Solo Cello works on October 16, 2011 in concert at The Renee Weiler Concert Hall in NYC.
I have a Bachelor of Music Degree 1975, and Master's Credits in Music Education from Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College, and taught Theory and General Music at Brooklyn College Prep (1980) under Director Carolyn A., Education Foundation Course from Teachers College, The Bank Street School, and a 2 year practicum and Certification (also faculty SFS) in Early Childhood Suzuki Education from the School for Strings/Julliard Required.
I learned Commercial/Graphic Arts and Fine Arts growing up from family and father who were graphic, fine artists, and art teachers. I won Botanical Prizes judged by Metropolitan Museum at the International Orchid Show, World Trade Center. Associate at the Gloria Plevin Gallery, Chautauqua NY, and built and displayed my own art and represented 9 other artists from 2003 to 2009 at the Silver Angel Gallery. I published and illustrated a Children's Book. Other exhibitions include the permanent collection of the Westfield Library and Exhibit/Concert with funding from the NY State Council on the Arts, exhibits of nature art at the Chautauqua Institute Colonade Gallery, and a review in the Chautauqua Daily. I have had sales of private works in the collection of Kay Logan, Trustee of the Chautauqua Institute and Foundation, and others. I have done other studies and life drawing at the Art Students League.
