Pace University (Master's)
I'm an adjunct professor at the university. I teach French and Arabic and I also work also as a substitute teacher at the public schools.
Being a foreign language teacher is in many ways unique within the profession of teaching, the challenge for teachers of increasing their knowledge of the subject.
I learned from my experience that also the teacher's individual personality as well as attitude toward both the language and the students also plays a role in overcoming their anxiety.
As a foreign language teacher, I have always to be sensitive to students' fears and insecurities and help them to comfort those fears. Also I'm gentle and use non-threatening methods of error correction and offer words of encouragement. I speak more slowly or consider using English to clarify key points to give specific directions.
