My love of teaching photography comes from years of taking photographs. I started taking photos for my youth service programs twenty years ago. People liked my photographs so much that they offered to pay me for my services. I thought that that was a real honor. I continued learning about photography which led me to take community courses at York College. After continuing my studies and learning as much about photography as I could, I hit a plateau and decided to enroll in the International Center of Photography in Manhattan. After taking several courses at the school, specifically in the area of lighting, I decided to become a Teacher's Assistant at the school.
Once I became a Teacher's Assistant, I learned the true value of teaching others. It is an amazing experience as I get to rediscover photography through the eyes and lenses of every student that enrolls in the program. I am having such a wonderful time sharing my knowledge and experience with others. I want to continue teaching more students who wish to learn more about the field of photography. One of the things that I love doing is giving students photography assignments. I look forward to seeing their energy, pride and enthusiasm through their photographs. When I performed my internship as a Special Education teacher, we used photography as a form of expression for our students. (First and second graders) When we printed out their photos, their big, bright smiles reminded me of why I wanted to become a teacher. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
