My goal as a tutor is to help students achieve the skills necessary to succeed, feel confident, and improve grades. I have been a student at SUNY Rockland Community College (RCC) working towards a degree in Engineering with a 3.837 GPA. I have experience with multiple chemistry, physics, and mathematics courses. As a Phi Theta Kappa student, I know that hard work, dedication, and perseverance pay off.
Currently, I teach ninth and tenth grade mathematics at a private high school. At RCC, I have tutored individually and conducted small group workshops for math and chemistry. My expertise in tutoring ranges from high school to college level math (arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry) and chemistry coursework. I feel that it is important to explain topics in a manner that is understood by the student depending on his / her individual academic level. My goal is to find how each student learns best and how he / she can master the material in a method that works best for him / her. One way that I achieve this goal is to break down problems into small manageable exercises that can be solved, as well as find the gaps in student learning in conceptual understanding and problem solving skills.
It is important that each student fully understand the material rather than memorize formulas. My tutoring philosophy is: “no question is a bad question.” It is my job to ensure that students feel comfortable asking questions; they know that I am approachable, patient, and want to help them succeed.
Tutoring sessions take place at a your school, home, or public library.
I receive positive feedback from my students and can provide a letter of recommendation addressing my tutoring methodology from Dr. Adessa Butler of Rockland Community College.
I want you to maximize your time and money; if you are not satisfied with a session, I will not bill you.
I look forward to helping you succeed!
