About Mariela


With a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts and Masters Degree in Computer Graphics my expertise is as an artist and designer delivering motion graphics, print design, and multimedia digital looks and color correction.
I am involved with both the creative and business aspects of all projects, including conceptualization, storyboard elaboration, project development and implementation, design team management and production supervision.

Together with my design practice I have also been teaching design classes for colleges and private companies. My teaching experience includes teaching and interacting with students in a classroom environment, developing lessons and giving lectures in a various programs and classes. Here is a list of some: beginner to advanced level in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, QuarkXPress, After Effects, Dreamweaver; Design Basics, Photo Concepts, Computer Illustration, Color Theory and Portfolio Production classes.

The default rate is applicable to all of my beginning sessions. After a third 2 hour session (equal to 6 1hr classes) depending on the material complexity, the rate will increase to $75 per hr.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe InDesign

Working in the area of graphic design for years, I have designed various promotional materials including identity sets, brochures, cards, posters, calendars, banners, digital illustrations, charts, storyboards and others.
For most of those projects I have used Adobe InDesign.

Also, I have thought the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, After Effects, Dreamweaver, Flash) in various institutions as part of the Graphic Design curriculum.

Desktop Publishing

As a graphic design professional, I have worked on digital projects in multiple fields, one of them being print and desktop publishing.
I have designed and prepared print-ready materials for various publications (newsletters, brochures, news ads, pamphlets, flyers, signs, materials for meetings, etc.).
I have planed content, graphic aspects, and presentation of material.
I determined size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, selected style and size type, and arranged layout based upon available space, knowledge of layout principles, and esthetic design concepts. I ensured consistency of design.

Drawing

I have been teaching, developing lessons and giving lectures in a various classes including Drawing.
In Drawing the basic mode is the visual, artistic mode. My study material covers descriptions of modes, media, basic drawing concepts, elements of drawing, usage of the media, recognizing the elements, using the negative and positive space. After covering the basics of drawing, the study continues with different drawing techniques and usage of different drawing materials. I have a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts and Masters Degree in Computer Graphics.

Film

Being on the team of a postproduction company in LA for several years, I have worked as a colorist on different platforms and on a variety of projects. I am familiar with Silicon Color FinalTouch, Final Cut Pro and a variety of other tools and plug-ins for the manipulation of color. I have also supervised sessions on DaVinci Systems and have consulted with Directors of Photography and worked with Visual Effects Supervisors to develop and maintain consistent and balanced looks.I work as a New Media Designer/Art Director with extensive experience developing print, multimedia and postproduction projects. Also, I have been teaching, developing lessons and giving lectures in a various classes including Movie Production.

Graphic Design

I have worked in the area of graphic design for years developing and consulting on digital projects in a variety of media. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts and Master's Degree in Computer Graphics.

My projects have included corporate presentation, digital illustration, web design, motion graphics for broadcast, interactive broadband applications, motion graphics color correction.
I conceptualize projects with an eye on the brand strategies, engage clients interactively to create optimal concepts, manage the creative and technical phases of the projects.

Together with working on design projects, I have taught for various institutions as an Art & Design Educator.

Macintosh

As an Designer and Design Educator working in the area of design and computer graphics, I have proficiency in both Mac and PC platforms. For my design work I have been using mostly Mac.

My consulting work consist of creating and deploying marketing campaigns, including: site wide promotions, search engine marketing, search engine optimization, email marketing campaigns and social media promotions; Generating marketing and ad initiatives with focus on brand awareness and supporting business objectives; Building community involvement through social media interactions using e-blasts, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

Video Production

For this topic the main material I cover is the Principles of Design and the Elements of Design. Principles of Design are the laws of designing anything. The seven Design principles are contrast, emphasis, balance, unity, pattern, movement, and rhythm. Elements of Design are things that are involved within making a design. The seven elements of Design are color, value, texture, shape, form, space, and line. Elements of design will help the design to look more unique then other designs, and can help make the design symbolize anything. I have a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts and Masters Degree in Computer Graphics.

Web Design

I have been teaching, developing lessons and giving lectures in a various classes including Web Design. For this topic the main material I cover is web design principles, how to conceptualize new templates and site designs, how to design and optimize email and page templates. The material covers usage of programs as Illustrator, Photoshop, basic HTML and CSS, Dreamweaver, Fireworks. Emphasis is on developing of web-focused interaction design skills. I have a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts and Masters Degree in Computer Graphics.
