About Brian

Hello and welcome to my page! If you're hoping for a tutor who's bland and boring, you've come to the wrong place! Though I may not have as many years of experience as other people on this service I can assure you that I'm just as qualified! I recently graduated from Marist college with a B.A in mathematics and pursued a degree in Math education. I am right now in the limbo between undergraduate and graduate school. While I was at Marist however I was a tutor there all four years that I attended, teaching topics from algebra topics to being a teaching assistant in a Calculus I class. Along with that I tutored courses such as linear algebra, logic, and precalculus in a walk-in math tutoring center on campus. Outside of my involvement in math tutoring at Marist I also completed an entire semester of student teaching during my senior year. I taught 7th grade Common Core, Geometry and Algebra II during my experience.

Other areas I can be of use are the SAT and ACT math sections! Yes, even those dreaded standardized tests! Seeing as I am working towards graduate school I had to take the GRE (very recently) which is the grad school equivalent to the SATs, so I am very familiar with the format and structure of the test! I'll be able to help you logically think through the problems and reduce the time it takes to answer the questions with confidence!

Teaching has been my career of choice since childhood, and what I have learned about myself as a teacher is that I flourish when working one on one. I'm in my element and I have seen drastic improvement in my students work after one on one practice together. I hope to work with you and together we can both grow; you as a mathematician and me as a teacher!

As I've stated I graduated with a BA in mathematics and completed student teaching at Marist. What separates me from other tutors is my ability to hone in on what is confusing or tripping up my student and breaking it down to the fundamental level and building it back up. I'm a firm believer in understanding the fundamentals before progressing to the more advanced. It is this belief that has founded my teaching philosophy and in turn allowed me the opportunity to help students develop a firm understanding of topics they had otherwise felt uncomfortable with. As we all know, math builds upon itself at a somewhat exponential rate, and so missing foundational ideas creates gaps in understanding that need to be filled. I will do my best to fill those gaps.

I promise to make the lessons as painless and as engaging as possible. I have an arsenal of math puns and jokes ready to go. Don't you worry.

Also don't be afraid to reach out. Get to know me more as a person if you want! I'm an open book. If I don't seem like the right fit, then no worries! It's your education, finding the right tutor may take time. You'll get there (I hope it's me though).

Thank you for your time!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Linear Algebra

I graduated with a BA in mathematics. I took this course twice, once for the initial requirement, then second because I enjoyed the course so much I wanted to take it again and be the unofficial teaching assistant. I have recieved an A In the course (I can submit my transcript if necessary).

Swimming

I have been a certified swim instructor for 4 years through the Red Cross. I have worked for two different organizations teaching swim lessons both one on one and in group settings. I am currently teaching at the Suffolk Y JCC. I am going to begin assistant coaching a swim team in the near future
