I admit it: as a published author and an English teacher, I'd rather be reading and writing than doing just about anything else. But don't let that scare you. Reading and writing well aren't skills just for geeks like me. Whether you hope to be an astronaut, a stockbroker, or an entrepreneur, strong reading and writing skills will help you achieve your goals. I love working with students to show them how being a more adept reader and writer will ultimately make them a better math or science student, too.
I have taught English at a mid-sized suburban high school for over ten years. During that time, I have taught all grade levels at the high school, including courses such as SAT Prep, Creative Writing, and AP Language and Composition. In addition, I am also the chairperson of the English Dept., grades 7-12. I am well-versed in all aspects of the new Common Core State Standards and the updated SAT.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you meet your goals. I admit it: as a published author and an English teacher, I'd rather be reading and writing than doing just about anything else. Excellent tutor we were extremely satisfied with her ability to teach SAT prep. Knowledgeable and caring, she communicates very well and I would highly recommend her.
Barbara has been tutoring my 2 sons (6th and 11th grades) in reading this summer. She's extremely knowledgeable and always prepared. I am very pleased with the job she's doing and will continue the lessons during the school year.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently a high school teacher and the chairperson of the English Department at my high school. Our curriculum, which I personally wrote, is aligned to the new Common Core State Standards. My department has given the new Common Core English Regents exam for the past two years; our students have performed very well on the test.
I have taught every grade at the Secondary level. I am currently the English Department chairperson at my school district, so I am very familiar with the expectations of grades 7-12 in ELA.
I am currently a high school English teacher on Long Island. I am also the chairperson of the English Department. Over the years, I have taught the 11th grade (which is when students typically take the English Regents exam) and have graded more Regents-style essays than I could possibly count.
I am qualified to tutor students in the writing and reading sections of the SAT and ACT exams.
