My reading lessons are designed to strengthen skills and help students to reach Reading Benchmarks. Post-Pandemic data shows that many students need extra time/support in strengthening the lessons they've already learned. I've developed methods to approach fluency, comprehension (listening and reading) and decoding - all while playing games and using art/crafts to motivate young students and assist them with the skills they need to grow into strong - and happy - readers:)
I offer in-person painting lessons (your space or mine). Please refer to my Facebook page "The Rock Porter" for some images of my recent work. I'm formally trained, with both my Bachelor's and Master's concentrations on painting. I choose to abstract images in my own work, but am a sharp draftsman and absolutely love to draw. There's a local Life Drawing class with live model, which is a wonderful space to meet students.
Conversational English: Years ago, a student from Moscow asked me to just sit and talk! I was happy to, and found myself learning more than I was teaching! I really enjoy learning about my students' cultures and interests, as they build their vocabulary and fluency. My lessons vary, in order to address individual student needs. I use American Accent Training as a resource and provide endless lists/descriptions of "idioms". These odd phrases can be so confusing, and can disrupt listening comprehension and fluency for English Language Learners.
If you're interested in meeting for 5 or 10 minutes, just to see if we're a good match, I'm happy to offer that first visit free of charge. Thanks for reading my profile! - Maryanne
