About Lise

I have worked as a tutor, teacher, trainer, and publisher specializing in English Language Teaching (ELT) for over 25 years. I hold a BA in English and an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language.

I began tutoring researching and writing skills to college students in the early 1980s. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, I taught ESL in Taiwan. In the mid-1990s, I served as teacher and academic coordinator at a university-based intensive English program. From 1998 - 2013, I worked as an editor for academic publishers. I now divide my time between tutoring ESL and composition and freelance writing and editing.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

I have been an active member of Toastmasters for almost 13 years. In that time, I have successfully delivered over 50 speeches to audiences of between 10 and 200 people. In addition, I have coached and evaluated members on ways to improve their public speaking skills.
