About Jason

Hello!

My name is Jason (Jaemin), and I'm a certified foreign language instructor. I have been teaching languages (English, Spanish and Korean) to children, teenagers, and adults for several years and I love every minute of it. I use unique, practical, and innovative ways to get my students involved and to make learning foreign languages fun!

Since I am multilingual myself, I personally understand the difficulties of learning a new language and how scary it can be to use it. My declared major at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta was International Relations and Spanish Language & Literature, and I also studied Korean and East Asian Studies at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, South Korea.

I have years of experience working alongside Mexican-immigrant families living in New York and North Korean refugees living in South Korea. I provided linguistic, legal, and personal support as well as English-language instruction.

I have received my Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certification and my Certificate in Teaching Business English (CTBE) from International TEFL & TESOL Training.
l experience, to work with you through these difficulties and to turn your weaknesses into strengths!

Public speaking, conversation, reading, writing, grammar, as well as test preps such as TOEFL, and TOEIC are all aspects that I have helped my students with and I am confident that I can help you as well.

Please contact me if you are interested and we can start from there!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have received both my Teaching English as a Foreign Language (120-hours) and Certificate in Business English (20-hours) from International TEFL & TESOL Training. I also worked as an English Conversation Tutor in South Korea and in the United States for one year each.

Korean

I was a dual major in International Studies and Foreign Language, with a dual concentration in Latin American and East Asian Studies, and Spanish and Korean. I was the Vice President of the Korean Cultural Club at my college; therefore, I often had to use both English and Korean to communicate with the general student body members and with our American professors to schedule events. In 2014, I was an exchange student at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, South Korea, where I was enrolled in an Intensive 200-hour Korean Language Immersion Program which was only conducted in Korean. I also took courses in Korean history, culture, society, and politics. When I graduated college, I interned at a non-profit organization called Liberty in North Korea which helps rescue and resettle North Korean refugees hiding in China. I worked with many South and North Koreans on this issue and was able to use my Korean skills every day.

Public Speaking

I was born and raised in Long Island, New York, and I graduated college from the State University of New York at Oneonta. I took several Public Speaking, Conflict Management, and Argumentation courses while in college, which required me to give both brief and long speeches as test grades. In addition, I was a dual major in International Studies and Foreign Languages, so I was constantly giving presentations on issues such as human trafficking and social injustice in English, Spanish, and Korean. While studying abroad in South Korea, I was employed as an English Conversation Tutor and led a class of freshmen students for a semester. When I returned to the U.S., I worked as the ESL Instructor at my university for one year, which helped hone my ESL teaching skills and public speaking abilities.

Spanish

I have been studying the Spanish language since the age of 12 and received my concentration in Spanish Language & Literature in college. I worked as both an ESL Instructor and a English-Spanish Translator for while in college, so I have direct experience working with native Spanish-speaking people. I also have received my High-Intermediate Spanish Speaking certification from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language.

TOEFL

I have received both my Teaching English as a Foreign Language and Certificate in Business English! I also worked as an English Conversation Tutor in South Korea and in the United States.
