My love for teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning and helping others achieve their goals. As a Kappa Delta Pi graduate, I know that hard work and dedication to learning can pay off. I have had the pleasure of working with children for over 10 years. Recently; I took a big step and decided to go back to college to work on my Doctorate Degree. This degree will focus on Early Childhood Education and all aspects enabling me to form a deeper background which will include the administrative sides. this will ensure that all of my students are getting the best possible education.
Specializing in Early Childhood Education gives me the ability to focus on specific needs for each child. Having this strong background has enabled me to recognize, understand and work positively with all types of abilities, needs and areas of education. This has helped me in becoming the educator that I am.
I hold myself to a high standard and for that reason I ask for feedback. Along with that feedback I never bill for a lesson in which the student or parent is not completely satisfied with my tutoring.
While I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, and offer make up classes, I ask that you contact me within five hours of the session so that I can be flexible with my time in the case of cancellation.
Please be sure that my student has a quiet and comfortable study place in which to work with me.If that is not possible, I am happy to travel to another location if that is more convenient for the student. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor in the elementary subjects due to my knowledge and instructional usage of NYS curriculum across all subject areas. By having this knowledge I am able to effectively teach students of varied academic levels and ages. Working exclusively with the NYS Common Core Learning Standards has enabled me to create lessons that engage, motivate and encourage learning.
Having been awarded a certificate of proficiency in Zaner-Bloser manuscript and cursive enables me to help students with their handwriting.
Working with elementary age students, I have a clear and concise knowledge of the Common Core Learning Standards along with Marzano and sight words. Creating lessons around phonics to maximize the student outcome is part of the necessary steps that need to be taken in order for students to gain the most of of tutoring. I have worked with these students who need the extra help with their phonics, spending 30 minutes with them individually or separately. Creating lessons where they are practicing sounds, understanding sounds and also seeing the sounds forming words is an element that is crucial in order for them to succeed.
I have worked as a tutor before and after school with students so that they may practice their study skills, giving them items such as Venn Diagrams and note-taking ideas. We would practice with a student or myself reading a passage, then they would have to state what are some of the important facts in order to remember the key ideas. This helped them to zone in on the important things.
