About Bill

Greetings,

I graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a degree in secondary education for mathematics. I have taken several upper level math courses that include: Calculus 1-3, Introduction to Proofs, Axiomatic Geometry, Precalculus, Algebra 1-2, Trigonometry, Geometry, linear algebra, abstract algebra, foundations of analysis, and intermediate analysis. I developed an affinity for math when taking Calculus in High School. My teacher really inspired me and made me realize that math did not have to be as dry and boring as it is often perceived to be.

My education courses in college have made me aware of and interested in many different styles of learning and I am interested in developing my own teaching style that revolves around activities rather than the traditional lecture homework style. My interest is in teaching the concepts rather than strictly the material. I believe that learning comes most naturally when you're having fun, and my goal is to make math a fun learning experience. This is certainly not to say that I won't assist in understanding homework assignments, but I feel that a broader understanding can be developed by branching off and covering the material from different perspectives of thought.

I have tutored over 300+ hours through Wyzant and have learned a great deal of things during that time. I prefer to tutor in public locations since many students are much more focused when they are in an environment away from the comfort and distraction of their homes.

Feel free to ask any questions.
Bill

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
