About Raissa

My tutoring experience began as a junior in high school when I provided homework help to 7th and 8th grade students at the local middle school. My interest in helping students overcome their fears and difficulties in math continued as I began working in the math help room at Wellesley College where I majored in Mathematics. Shortly after graduating in 2013, I decided to impart my knowledge and passion for math as a high school math teacher in Brooklyn, NY. While teaching, I earned a Master's in Education with a focus on Mathematics 7-12 and NYS Teaching Certification. Through my experiences as a teacher, I learned pedagogical strategies and techniques to help me to adjust my teaching methods based on individual student needs. I am currently working towards a PhD in Applied Mathematics & Statistics and continue to help students excel in math.

What I love most about tutoring is the ability to help students along the spectrum. I am able to give a struggling student confidence on their next exam, while also challenging top performing students and pushing them to strengthen their conceptual understanding of the content. Though sometimes challenging, I strongly believe mathematics is a subject in which, with the right help, all students can excel.

I have a strong content knowledge and educational background in mathematics. In addition, I have varied experiences working as a math teacher and tutor. For that reason, I am up to date with current teaching curriculums and methods.

If you're looking for an experienced and patient tutor, look no further. If interested in setting up a tutoring session, feel free to contact me to move forward.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
