My name is Amanda. I have always been an excellent student in English. I earned my BS in liberal arts and sciences - English. Upon taking the NYS Correction Officer civil service exam in 2013, I ranked in the 90th percentile for English.

When it comes to English I enjoy all the aspects of the subject including poetry, reading, writing, proofreading, close reading, etc. Throughout both my high school and college careers I have been asked by many fellow students and friends to proofread their papers to ensure they receive good marks. English can be a tedious subject and sometimes takes patience to understand, but when understood it is a subject in which one can find themselves. English has always been a love of mine, and I take pride in helping others learn to excel and hopefully love the subject as well.

I am currently pursuing my master's in vocational teacher preparation; this will allow me to attain my CTE (career and technical education) teacher's certificate.

I believe that many students hit a rough patch in life and all they need to help smooth it out is a little guidance. Every student can be successful and one-on-one teaching/learning can lend a helping hand. The way to achieve this is to find how the individual student best learns and then tailor the lessons to that. During my undergraduate I spent two (2) semesters majoring in adolescent education - English and have learned how to mold lessons to varieties of students to benefit each one. Each student is different and needs to learn and understand in their own ways; By acknowledging these differences and working with the student's abilities the student has a better chance of grasping the lesson.

In addition to my English skills I am also a sports enthusiast. I have played basketball, softball, golf and soccer for the past 14 years; I have also recently (two years ago) started to play rugby.

*I have experience with home schooling.

Proofreading,

Proofreading

As a former English major, I wrote a lot of papers and in turn had to constantly proofread each one countless times. In each English class, we were to switch papers with classmates and proofread their papers and this would count as a grade. I am very detail-oriented when it comes to writing and therefore point out when anything may have been an overlooked mistake or an obvious error.

When it comes to reading, what catches a lot of people off guard is their lack of vocabulary. When a word does not make sense or is not familiar to them, they should look it up instead of jumping over it. As a former English major, I read a lot of books and each one has its own story and meaning; it is important to read the whole book at least once. At a higher level of reading proficiency. it is acceptable to skim a book, reading quickly but carefully.

SAT Reading

When it comes to SAT reading it stands on a different end of the spectrum. Instead of reading through the passage, first one must read the question they are to answer. After this point you then read the passage once, and then again looking harder for the answer to said question. It is tedious work, but with the right practice anyone can become a terrific SAT reader.
