Medaille College (Secondary education)
College of St. Rose (Master's)
I am a recent graduate from the College of St. Rose with a master's degree in literacy and an undergraduate degree in Secondary Education specialized in Social Studies and special education. For my master's degree, all of our practice time was in tutoring sessions with one on one interaction.
My goal in every tutoring session is for the student to be challenged but not overwhelmed. When a student becomes overwhelmed they often get discouraged and are no longer active learners. I try to make my lessons creative and to look at the subject in multiple ways for the student to gain understanding.
I have a master's degree in literacy but beyond that I truly love to read and write. I enjoy helping others to understand the deeper meanings behind the English language and to help the student find tips and tricks to work around any problems they might be having.
I also have a undergraduate degree which focuses on history. Other than that I am a medieval reenactor For this alone I have studied extensively to understand what I am doing and to improve my own skills. I enjoy passing my love of social studies and learning to students.
Please feel free to contact me to learn more or to schedule lessons. I am free to set a scheduled appointments for the summertime and am available almost any time. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am certified by New York State in literacy. This allowed me to understand where a child is developmentally in the English language. It also allows me to find where the child's problem areas are and how to help fix them I enjoy reading and writing and hope to pass that along to the students that I am teaching.
