About Bill

I am new to WyzAnt but not to tutoring with hundreds of hours of one-on-one lessons. I have both bachelor's (3.9 GPA) and master's (3.7 GPA) degrees. I specialize in tutoring Calculus 1 and 2. I have been tutoring these courses for over 3 1/2 years at a local college. I'm also a substitute teacher and regular teach math classes for grades 7 through 12. I truly enjoy math, tutoring Calculus, and teaching and look forward to working with you.

My passion for mathematics and tutoring has spanned both my advanced education and professional career. I earned both my bachelor's (summa cum laude) and master's (magna cum laude) degrees in electrical engineering. These engineering programs consisted of mathematically-intense curriculums. Furthermore, I participated in an advanced engineering program at Lockheed Martin.

In my profession life, as a President and Chief Scientist, I regularly apply my mathematical skills. For 13 years I worked on a broad range of challenging department of defense research projects for the Air Force Research Laboratory. These efforts included a range of complex technologies including radar, multispectral imagery, and radio frequency communications. These programs required me to undertake challenging research, development, and implementation of state-of-the-art mathematical and processing algorithms.

I have helped students ever since my work as a volunteer tutor with the National Honor Society in high school. I also worked for the math department while pursuing my bachelor’s degree to assist with their pre-calculus program. More recently, I have been tutoring Calculus at a local college. This has been a very rewarding experience to have the chance to help students and enable them to achieve their full academic potential.

I have been concentrating my tutoring efforts on Calculus. For over 3 1/2 years, I have been tutoring Calculus 1 and 2 courses at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY. I have already worked with dozens college students with a range of skills. For the majority of those students, I was able to significantly improve their grades and assist them with mastering the subject. I was even able to help those struggling with the course.

In the spring of 2017 I became an instructional substitute for the Rome City School District in Rome, NY. Since then, I have already taught 50 days in a range of courses including math and science. As part of this, I successfully completed a 20 day long term assignment for an Earth Science class.

For a typical tutoring session, I review key topics and then work closely with the student to work through several sample problems. This provides a personalized assessment of the student’s abilities and their comprehension of the material, as well as, assisting with identifying specific areas where they need the most help. This allows me to tailor the lessons to meet the unique needs of each student.

As far as scheduling, I try to accommodate the needs of each student. I have a cancellation policy to allow timely scheduling with other students. I am flexible on meeting location. I live near Rome, NY and am open to traveling within a reasonable driving distance to meet with students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

I am new to WyzAnt but have over 350 hours of experience tutoring Calculus 1 and 2 at a local college for the past three and half plus years. I continue to actively tutor these courses through one-on-one sessions and focus my efforts on Calculus. I have a strong academic background with both bachelor’s (3.9 GPA) and master’s (3.7 GPA) degrees.

Understanding and willing to help

Bill takes the time to make sure you understand what he is teaching. He is patient and you can tell he knows what he is doing and knows how to teach it. Bill does a good job of going over the step by step process. Without him I would be falling behind in my math class.
