During my 4 years of undergraduate work, I had taken numerous History courses ranging from US History, World History, World War II, the 1960s, Race Relations, etc. I received a Teaching Fellowship through my undergraduate college during my senior year. In that role, I assisted my professor in teaching his US History classes while working on my degree. I earned the program award for the degree I was pursuing, which was a Social Science degree. I also had a mini- biography on Margaret Thatcher published in an encyclopedia on the elder George Bush.
I have graduated from Utica College with my Masters in Education: Adolescent Education. While my degree was focused on 7-12th grades, I worked on my 5th and 6th grade extension. This meant that I had to take the K-6 Methods classes in Science, Math, Social Studies, and English. I am working on my NYS Teacher Certification.
I took a job as a Pre-K teacher at a local daycare center. While there, I taught a group of Pre-K level children using the NYS Common Core Curriculum for Math and ELA. I then accepted Substitute Teaching positions in the Westmoreland School District (grades 5-12) and Oneida City School District (K-12). I enjoyed stepping into classrooms when teachers can not be there. I took my role seriously as a Substitute to ensure that the students were still on their learning schedules, and the teacher did not fall behind. Currently, I am teaching Universal Pre-K at Rome Catholic. My students are around 3 years of age. While starting school at such a young age, it is rewarding to see them grow as students, and prepare to attend Pre-K the following year as 4 year olds.
I have a 2 daughters. My older daughter is 7 years old, and in 2nd grade. My younger daughter is 5 years old, and is in Kindergarten. As a parent, I understand how important education is to my children. I want nothing but the best for my girls, and that is what I would promise you for your child. I have spent the past year as a Substitute Teacher in the K-6 setting. I have been able to step in for teachers who needed to be out of the classroom, and teach the required material for the students to learn effectively.
I have played the flute for over 15 years. I was always a first chair flutist in school bands. During college, I was one of 2 flutist in a small band that I even helped compose music for. I have been able to play numerous solos in my years playing in school bands. I have even marched for football games and parades.
I have taught some of my friends how to play the flute, and will teach my daughter when she is old enough to play. This is my favorite instrument.
I am proficient in Reading and Social Studies (which contains a lot of the same skills that Reading requires). I have stepped in for Resource teachers at the High School level to help in Reading. I was a Master Student and Teaching Fellow at the College level for 1 year.
As a Teaching Fellow in college, I had to tutor U.S. History students. I taught a class each semester on study skills and study habits. To prepare them for their reading assignments, midterm, and final exams.
