Hello, I'm Jake. I'm a 4th year undergraduate student at the Rochester Institute of Technology working towards a bachelors in Computing Science, with a dual minor in Computing Security and Mathematics. Soon I'll be heading to graduate school where I hope to study quantum computing. Prior to university, I attended Stuyvesant High School where I gathered my early teaching experience while simultaneously studying Computer Science.
In high school, I was a teacher's assistant for 1.5 years, half a year teaching introductory CS, and 1 full year teaching AP CS A. At the same time, I was co-running the school's primary tutoring center for CS (The CS Dojo) for my junior & senior years. I also have experience teaching middle school age children, through my work at Computer Science & Technology for Urban Youth (CSTUY).
More recently, I was a teacher's assistant at my university, teaching Mathematics of Graphical Simulation, a math course based in computer graphics for 1.5 years. Additionally, over the last 3 years I have gathered over 750 hours of experience teaching through Wyzant both online and in person in addition to hundreds of hours from other clients whom I tutor privately.
Long story short, I love to learn, I love to teach, and I love Computer Science. I am very passionate about the subject and like to foster that same passion in my students. To that end, I like to make lessons fun, interesting, and thought provoking as I find it is the best way for the information to be easy to learn and remember. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you're interested in scheduling a lesson or have any questions.

I managed a tutoring center for my high school for 2 years where I helped teach all levels of Computer Science. I was a TA for 1.5 years: 1 semester of Introductory CS, 1 full year for APCS A. I was also a volunteer tutor at CSTUY for 1 summer teaching Computer Science to middle school students. I work with my students to make sure they understand what's happening each step of the way, and have a large knowledge base to teach from.

Wonderful tutor, very patient

Very patient and makes certain that you understand concepts being taught and goes beyond the material so you have a fundamental understanding of the material. Wonderful tutor!

Sarah, 4 lessons with Jake

Very knowledgeable and helpful. Made sure I understood concepts before moving on.

He was always asking me questions to make sure I truly understood the material. He would give his own examples, too, if I needed more help with a specific topic. Very helpful. He is great.

Thanks

Jake's efficient knowledge helped me to cover a tiny issue plus he offered useful advice I needed for other platforms.

Perfection

Jake knew how to help ensure that the input data testings were running with validity for the users. Now I feel ready to present this project as a final project to my class!

The knight in shining armor to the rescue!

My son was a little hesitant to have a tutor his own age, but Jake happened to be available on short notice and had great reviews, so he agreed to give him a try. So glad he did! He had written Java code for a Java2 college level homework program but couldn’t get it to run. It needed debugging but he couldn’t see where the problem was. Jake is smart, really smart, when it comes to programming and helped him to get it working. Personable, friendly, and knows how to teach too. Thanks Jake! We’ll be booking again soon...

Knowledgable

Jake is very good on explaining concepts that I did not understand completely. He even showed me methods that made the project easier.

Extremely good

Jake takes the time to fully explain anything if you are stuck. Never condescending, always super helpful, and knowledgeable of the subject. He helped me with my java data structures projects a few times and each time I’ve been as ecstatic with the results as the first. Would definitely recommend.

Jack is a superb tutor, who is patient & SUPER bright / knowledgeable!

It has been many decades since I have done any serious math (I received my BS back circa 1985), ergo my math skills were not only rusty, they were almost nonexistent. Thankfully, I found Jake and he has been literally a breath of fresh air, i.e., he’s super easy to work with, he is exceptionally patient as a tutor, and just as importantly, he really, really knows his subject matter extremely well (math, computer science programming topics, etc.). I can’t recommend Jake more enthusiastically and with absolutely no reservations - - he’s simply the best one could hope to have as a tutor. Thank you again Jake for your exceptional help! I look forward to using Jake as a tutor repeatedly!
