About Dillon

Hello! I am a PhD/ Nurse Practitioner Student at the University of Rochester and also a Registered Nurse (RN) with a bachelor of sciences degree in nursing and biology (cum laude)! This unique combination of the science and its application may prove helpful to students, especially those in pre nursing programs as well as those currently in a RN program. I have prior teaching experience in Microbiology, General Biology, General Chemistry, and general nursing. One day I hope to advance as a professor of both science and nursing, so teaching has also been a goal of mine! I love when I am able to connect seemingly untangle concepts; for example, I was able to connect knowledge about nutrients from a nutrition class, nutrient composition from an organic chemistry lecture, and organ function from a human physiology class into one wholesome discussion of a medical patient in Medical- Surgical Nursing for a group of students.

During my bachelors degree, I double majored in Biology as well as Nursing. I have previous coursework experience in Ecology, Microbiology, Advanced Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology (animal and human), Entomology, Biostatistics, General Physics, General Chemistry, General Biology, Organic Chemistry, Ecology, Genetics, Animal Behavior, Astrophysics, and Aquatic Ecology.

As a recent RN graduate, I understand the challenges of the NCLEX as well as the test format, study strategies, and areas to focus. I passed the exam my first time with only 75 questions under 1 hour with complete confidence in passing- I hope to prepare students to not just pass but pass with confidence leaving the testing center!

*Note- I do charge a no show/ cancellation fee of $35 unless communication about a schedule conflict is made!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anatomy

Anatomy is essential to the health sciences and my background has a lot of experience and real world lessons with it!

Genetics

Genetics is a principle course in biology- which I hold a BS in. It is also important in the field of healthcare- nursing genetics is a booming field! My PhD focuses on the use of genetics (genes that encode for insulin and insulin growth factors) and how these genes influence the effectiveness of bio-behavioral interventions in dementia.

Microbiology

As a nurse and biology major, microbiology is a cornerstone. Infections are very prevalent in medicine, and understanding the way bacteria interact within our selfs and our environments is critical.

Nursing

I have a BS in Nursing/Biology. I am an NP/PhD Nursing student. I have one year of BS Nursing experience and six years of experience in medical/surgical.

Nutrition

Through my education I have taken a Nutrition Course through John Hopkins University looking at the role of nutrition in disease. My background in nursing as allowed me to become very familiar with not just nutrition compositing and understanding the core of nutrition, but has enabled me to teach fellow peers as well as patients.
