Hello! My name is Benjamin Larson and I graduated from the University of Rochester in New York with a bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering. I have helped other students with math since my senior year of high school and I cannot wait to start helping you! Some of the math classes I had to complete in my time at university include three calculus classes, linear algebra, and even math methods in the complex plane and multiple dimensions.

Hello! My name is Benjamin Larson and I graduated from the University of Rochester in New York with a bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering. I have helped other students with math since my senior year of high school and I cannot wait to start helping you! Yes, I am young, but I think that is an advantage in helping others learn. Many of the people I have tutored have been almost the same age as me, however none of them learn quite the same way. Every person is different, and sometimes all you need is a different point of view or different strategy to help you attack a problem. My experience in a high school or college math class has been unique, as I always seem to do problems a little bit different than the way the teacher does, but the important part is that is works for ME. We will work to find what works for YOU.

I have excelled in math my entire life and have helped others surpass what they thought they were capable of for many years now. I held a 4.0 GPA in high school, received a 5 on the AP calculus exam, 780 on the SAT math section, and continue to expand my knowledge in math at university. Whether it is solving for x or taking the derivative of what seems to be a "gross" function, I can help you understand the process and work with you until it becomes second nature.

If you feel like you need some tips and tricks, want to find new ways to attack math problems, or simply need some guidance in math from someone who has recently been through the system please do not hesitate to send me a message and we will have you on the way to great grades in no time! I can't wait to be working through these problems and concepts with you soon.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra, the basic building block of all math to come. Making sure you have a solid foundation is essential in the world of math, and algebra will forever be involved in any future math course. In high school, as I was taking AP Calculus, my friend's brother was struggling through algebra. I spent an hour with him twice a week working through problems and he very quickly became an A+ student in math. The biggest obstacle at this level is believing you can do it, and while frustrations and breakdowns occur along the way, I am certain that any student can build a strong foundation with the right attitude and effort.

Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus is my strongest subject and I have passed all of the necessary math courses for my major (Optical Engineering) with flying colors. My approach to calculus is different than most people, for learning in a classroom with a teacher emphasizing one way to do a problem has never worked for me. I have tutored several peers in calculus, received a 5 on my AP calculus exam, and have won competitions at local colleges involving this subject. To master calculus, one has to break down problems into what they actually mean. Many people can do calculus, the most important part for success and a solid foundation is truly understanding calculus.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Precalculus is one of the first math courses where critical thinking and basic math skills clash. For many students, pre-calc is a nightmare, but what it comes down to is understanding the problems THEN figuring out how to approach it. I have won mathletics competitions involving precalculus and continue to use ideas and methods learned in this subject in my journey to a degree in Optical Engineering. I have also helped several students in precalculus as a volunteer tutor and continue to help my brother today whenever he needs the help.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have taken the SAT twice, have gone through numerous practice tests and did very well on the SAT math section (780). Having done so much work with SAT math and having great success, I am confident in my ability to help you succeed as well. I can teach you tips and tricks to ensure that you maximize your score and impress colleges in no time. Math has always been a strong suit of mine having been through the SAT quite recently, I know the ways in which college board tries to trick you.
