About Yusuf

I am a recent graduate of the State University of Geneseo. At Geneseo I studied mathematics with a focus in probability and statistics. During my time at the college I was able to interact with a program called Rochester Young Scholars At Geneseo where I tutored Rochester youth.

After my time at Geneseo I worked for Upward Bound, Rochester City School District. Currently I am working for the Science Technology Program through Monroe Community College. I provide tutoring, academic and college advisement, organizing trips and teaching summer classes. I am currently attending Nazareth College for a Masters of Education. I plan to be certified in adolescence math education grades seven through twelve and special education grades kindergarten through twelve.

My goals for students are to become fluent in math vocabulary, and be able to explain concepts both theatrical and in a real life application. This will make it easier for students to want to transition to different fields of mathematics (teaching, application, computer science, physics, actuarial science etc.) What I enjoy about math tutoring the most is the multiple logical connects you can make once grasping the concepts. I hope to bring that to all students.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Through attaining my BA in Mathematics at SUNY Geneseo, Calculus was the first series of courses I worked through, and in doing so they became a foundation for later, more advanced coursework, as well as future research projects. Since studying calculus, I have tutored multiple high school students in the subject, through my work with the Science and Technology Entry Program, a NYS grant-funded program aimed at helping underrepresented students achieve admission and success in higher education, with a focus on math and the sciences. Currently I am working for the Science Technology Program.

Algebra 2

Through attaining my BA in Mathematics at SUNY Geneseo, as well as my time tutoring high school students, I have become well-versed in a wide range of math coursework. Algebra 2 will be the begin stage to test students understanding and comprehension of vocabulary and solving application problems. Since graduating college, I have tutored multiple high school students through my years of work with the Science and Technology Entry Program, a NYS grant-funded program aimed at helping underrepresented students achieve admission and success in higher education, with a focus on math and the sciences. During my time at the college I was able to interact with a program called Rochester Young Scholars.
