About Seyda

Hi Parents and Students,

I am very interested and excited to tutor students in various subjects. Here is a little bit of information about myself that can allow you to get to know myself and my teaching background. I have graduated from St. John Fisher College with a Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education and Special Education 1-6, which I am certified in. Also, I am currently pursuing my Masters in Literacy Education Birth-12.

My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning and a strong passion and commitment to teaching students and making a difference in their education. As a cum laude graduate, my optimistic personality, which made me a life-long learner, has allowed me to pursue my Masters degree. I want to have the pleasure to help hundreds of students realize their learning potential and see an improvement in their school work.

As a Childhood and Special Education (1-6) certified teacher, I specialize in elementary common core math, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and literature for grades K-6. I have never tutored before, but I have many teaching experiences that have prepared me to become a successful teacher. During my student teaching, I have taught math lessons using common core modules, which I am very familiar with. I love teaching math and working with numbers, because I believe that math is a way to make connections with other subjects and to the real-world. Currently, I am a 2nd grade co-teacher at Renaissance Academy Charter School of the Arts. I work with small groups of students and teach lessons as a whole class. I conduct guided reading groups and my students are in groups based on their reading abilities and what they need to work on. Also, I differentiate ELA and Math lessons to meet the needs of all my students. Therefore, one of my strengths is I am able to differentiate lessons for students based on their learning levels, because students learn at different levels and it is important to assess students to see where they are at in their learning and base their lessons off of that. Then, it is important to assess and monitor students to make sure they are showing progress. Also, I have conducted literature groups with different pieces of literature.

One of my goals for each tutoring session is to differentiate instruction for my students based on their learning levels, but also challenge them. If students aren't given the opportunity to be challenged, they aren't going to be able to further their learning and go beyond what they know. Also, it allows them to stretch their thinking and allows for growth in critical thinking skills. In order to track my student's progress throughout the tutoring, I will assign homework after each session and provide informal assessments, such as quizzes, quick writes, etc. and formal assessments, such as tests, mini-projects, writing prompts, etc. and progress reports. The informal and formal assessments will be engaging and informative that the student and I will review as a way to improve progress and set goals.

With a strong educational background and a passion to teach students, I am looking forward to increasing student's confidence and improving their grades. With fun, engaging, and informative lessons, students will learn a lot from my tutoring sessions and take away knowledge that they will apply in school. I am very excited about having the opportunity to tutor students and I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have graduated from St. John Fisher College with a Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education 1-6 and Special Education 1-6. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Literacy Education Birth-12. I have completed my student teaching in a co-taught 2nd and 5th grade classroom, in which I have worked with a variety of student learning levels. Also, currently I am a reading teacher in the Rochester City School District for grades 3-6. In addition, I have been working with Common Core Standards for all grade levels throughout my teaching.

Elementary Math

During my student teaching I have taught elementary common core mathematics to my 5th grade students, so I am very familiar with the math modules. I differentiated instruction in order for all my students to understand the concepts and I applied manipulatives, which was an excellent way for them to learn math. I love working with numbers and applying real-world connections and problems, because it allows for students to expand their critical thinking skills.

Phonics

As a current reading teacher working with grades 3-6, my 6th grade students are reading at a K-1 level and I have to build their phonics by starting with their phonemic awareness. I apply Common Core Standards and Core Knowledge Language Arts to my instruction. In addition, in my graduate courses I was introduced to Words Their Way, which is an excellent resource to use to build phonics. I have learned the spelling stages, how to build phonemic awareness, such as letter sounds, how to decode words, etc. Therefore, I am very knowledgeable in the area of phonics, especially having the opportunity to work with students that are at various learning levels.
