About Jared

I'm a recent (December, 2015) college graduate who has enjoyed tutoring both math and physics since high school. My undergraduate minor is math, and coursework leading to my BS Mechanical Engineering included a strong concentration of physics and math classes. As a TA throughout my undergraduate and graduate education, my responsibilities included grading assignments and providing extra help at all levels of math and physics classes in the on- campus learning labs at both Monroe Community College [MCC] --- where I earned a double major in Math and Engineering --- and at Rochester Institute of Technology [RIT] in Rochester, NY.

Math and Physics have always been among my favorite subjects, and I'm hoping to use my education in these fields when I obtain employment as a mechanical engineer at a local company. But, over the past decade, a 70-80% downsizing among the City of Rochester's three largest employers, has resulted in few available entry level positions for mechanical engineers, and those posted often go to engineers with 2-5 years' experience from Eastman Kodak, Xerox, and/or Bausch & Lomb. I graduated Summa cum laude and earned a 4.0 for my masters coursework. I'm optimistic that a position will come along. In the meantime, a friend recommended this site, and I'm happy to give it a try.

While I've been lucky that Math and Physics have always been relatively "easy" for me, like most people, this isn't the case with every academic subject: I've had my share of challenges in other subjects. LOL, in the interest of full-disclosure, writing a 5 page essay for freshman literature on Oedipus Rex was a heck of a lot more "challenging" than any of the 1/2 marathons I've run or Adirondack High Peaks I've climbed. We all have our strengths, and we all have our opportunities to give our challenges the best we've got. The help of several empathetic teachers and learning lab tutors has made all the difference for me. I'd like to play it forward for someone else!

I'm pretty flexible, but as a morning person, am at my best during the daytime. Please contact me here on WyzAnt if you think I can be of assistance. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

There are several methods I know to solve a diff eq as well as different type. There are linear, non-linear, first-order ODE, second order ODE, series, Eigenvalues/eigenvectors and more. All linear equations can be solved using linear method, undetermined coefficients, variation of parameters, wronskian, laplace transforms (w/ or w/o t or s shift), etc. Non-linear ODEs are usually solved numerically but there are some methods that can be done including caushy/euler, power series, etc. I have had experience experience with helping students in a diff. eq class back at my college days.
