My name is Elizabeth and I have been a classroom teacher for 9 years. I have worked with students of all ages and love teaching all subjects, especially Math. I pride myself on making learning fun through exploration and educational games. I have over 5 years experience with Common Core, including implementing the program at two different schools.
I love working with students in a tutoring setting because I can provide the child with exactly what they need. When working one on one, students are more comfortable asking questions and I can see where the struggles truly are. Additionally, tutoring gives me the chance to get to know a child's personality, likes and dislikes, and passions.
I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Elementary Education. Because of this, I have completed a great deal of coursework on the the best strategies for reading instruction. As a classroom teacher, I was also responsible for all ELA instruction.
I was responsible for starting the Common Core instruction as the Math Department Chair. I have done research on the learning standards, the way students' will be assessed, and strategies that have worked well in other states who implemented Common Core prior to New York. I know how to make it seem "easy" rather than scary.
I have taught in an elementary school classroom for 5 out of my 9 years of teaching. I understand the content as well as the age very well. Children at this age need to be an active part of their learning at this age and I feel that I can do that while still holding children responsible for their own learning.
I would be happy to speak to you further about my qualifications and what you are looking for. I hope to hear from you! My name is Elizabeth and I have been a classroom teacher for 9 years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
