Lisa J., M.Ed., poet, educator, former editor, self-published author, motivational speaker, writing rehabilitation therapist, human rights activist, dancer and vocalist, continues to spread her message of Hope and Love to everyone she encounters. Within the beauty of her poetry and the sophistication of her prose lies Lisa’s courage to give voice to those who might not otherwise have an opportunity to speak. While her passion is literacy, Lisa believes that all of God’s children have the ability to reach their full potential if given the right tools. Having taught middle and high school English courses at an all boys Jesuit school, Lisa understands the “education of the whole person” philosophy as well as Bandura’s Theory of Self-Efficacy, “the perception and belief in his or her ability to succeed in a particular situation.”
Lisa’s unique ability to fuse art and literacy as rehabilitative therapy to assist individuals from trauma to transition is a model that she inspires participants of all ages to enter the world of learning through the portal of interactive experiences particularly the use of multi media: photography, video, audio, and performance.
Lisa has taught creative writing workshops in the city of Rochester for well over 20 years. Her workshops: Writing and Photography, and Riding and Writing are well received by parents and students alike. Johnson prides herself on creating and employing culturally responsive pedagogy, curriculums and practices that embrace the dynamic mix of race, ethnicity, class, gender, region, religion, and family makeup that contributes to the cultural identity of each and every student.
