About Calvin

I have always had a knack for explaining things, and as a result I love to teach. I have worked with many students throughout high school and college, and it is always a blessing to me to watch hard work pay off and result in success.

I tutored students of all ages for four years during my time at Wheaton College, where I earned my bachelor's degree in mathematics. I was also a teaching assistant for seven different professors and classes in the math department during my four years there. I have always enjoyed my experiences teaching and tutoring math students in various settings. I spent my first year out of college teaching math to sixth, seventh and eighth graders, and I am now a full-time online math teacher for grades 7-12.

I am a numbers person first and foremost, and I specialize in math subjects at all levels up to high school level math. I also specialize in test prep for math subject tests in both the ACT and SAT. I believe that the best way for one to learn is in a one-on-one setting in which the teacher can truly personalize the explanations to the needs of the student. I try to take the approach of first gauging where the student is at in terms of knowledge and understanding as well as his or her learning style, and then building on that foundation to get to the point where he or she needs to be.

I have always held myself to a higher standard than most, and the word complacency is not in my vocabulary. That being said, I would very much appreciate any feedback that I can get. No matter how good one becomes at something, there is always room for improvement in every area of life. We are all human beings, so we can all be constantly striving to get better. I will take any and all feedback that I receive, regardless of whether it is positive or negative, and use it to better myself as a tutor and as an individual.

I am excited to hear from you and to have the opportunity to guide you in your educational journey!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

He's the best! He is really great at breaking the information down to a level where the student can understand it.
