My background includes teaching English courses at the college level. My first teaching experiences were at Pima College in Tucson, Arizona, and Central Arizona College in Coolidge, Arizona. I left Arizona and moved to New York to accept a full-time tenure-track position at SUNY at Alfred in Alfred, New York. Since then, I taught at several colleges in the Rochester area.
Previous classes I have taught include English 101-Composition, English 105-Introduction to Literature, The Short Story, and Images of Women in Fiction. Other related experience includes working as a Yahoo News Contributor, writing articles for community newspapers. I also contributed freelance articles to a media outlet in Canandaigua, New York, and worked as a Writer/Public Relations Consultant for an organization, where I wrote articles about the agency that were published in newspapers across the Rochester/Finger Lakes region. I also had an article published in Animal Wellness Magazine in Aug/Sept. 2011.
Currently, I am working on a book that I hope to have published in the next year or so.
I also have experience working with ESOL students; most of my experience involves working with college students, but I am open to helping students of all ages who would like improve their writing, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
I see my role as a tutor as providing feedback on student writing and helping students to be able to see their own strengths and weaknesses in their writing. I enjoy working with students and helping them improve all aspects of their writing whether they are writing for academic or professional venues.
I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio, followed by a Master of Arts degree, also in English from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
