As an undergraduate, I majored in history with an emphasis in European History. I also minored in geography and secondary education. As a graduate student, I majored in American History with an emphasis in 19th Century American History. My minor was in American Indian History.
I am now a substitute teacher working steadily in several Monroe County school districts. In the prior two years, I have also been a tutor in the after-school enrichment program in the Rochester City School District. I hold a permanent certification in Secondary Social Studies in New York State.
As a summer school teacher at the Rochester Psychiatric Hospital, as well as a substitute teacher in Monroe County, I have been finger-printed. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
