I was a nanny and daycare teacher for over 20 years. I worked with children from infants to preschool. My co-teacher and I implemented curriculum according to the individual needs of each child and the goals each was working. We wrote progress reports and met with the parents to discuss the goals and plan. I have 5 sisters and four brothers. I am the third oldest and spent time teaching those younger than I how to read. I have 20 nieces and nephews ranging in age from 21 to 4. I have spent time working on homework assignments with some of them.
I graduated from RIT with honors and was on the dean's list with excellent grades and skills in English and Writing. I also learned American Sign Language. I worked with some Deaf students to improve their skills from ASL to English. I was a notetaker for numerous classes. I am currently working on my Master's degree as an art therapist. I have completed two semesters with As. My last 12 page paper received a 100% (A). In my undergraduate work I was a tutor at the college for ASL, psychology, and some computer skills. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am hard of hearing myself. I have taken 5 years of classes in American Sign Language. I have this as part of my BS degree. I have tutored hard of hearing and Deaf students at RIT.
I took five years of American Sign Language at RIT. It is also one of the concentrations I finished to complete my Bachelor's degree. I am hard of hearing as well. I use sign language interpreters at church on Sundays.
I have worked with children from pre-school to school aged children with reading skills out loud. This involves teaching how to pronounce words and recognize letters, sounds, and words.
