I believe that each child has the ability to learn. They should be given the time, attention and help they need in areas where they are not as confident in, in order for them to succeed. There is not just one way to learn. I try to get to know the child in a way that I can get to know their learning style. By learning his or her style, I will be able to adapt lessons so that he or she is able to better understand the material. It is not fair for someone to have to feel lost or continue to struggle. I will have high expectations that I want met but the child will be supported and challenged in order to meet them. I think the material should be presented in an engaging and thorough way so that the child can gain a better understanding.
I will be graduating in May from Houghton College. I have gone through the Inclusive Childhood Education program during my time there. Through this program I have learned many teaching theories and methods. I have also gained teaching experience through observations and two long term student teaching placements. I am currently in the process of becoming certified to teach K-8 general education and 1-6 special education. I believe that each child has the ability to learn. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have gone through a teaching program at Houghton College. I will be graduating in May and I am in the process of becoming NYS certified in general education K-8 and special education 1-6. I have had two student teaching placements; one was in a 6th grade classroom and one was in a 3rd grade classroom.
In 7th grade, I joined the lacrosse team at my school. I continued to play lacrosse until I graduated from high school, which totaled in 6 years of playing experience. Unfortunately, lacrosse was not added at my college until this year, but because of student teaching I have not been able to play. On game days that I am available I take the stats for the team.
I have taken several courses teaching me how to teach phonics to students. I have gone through a teaching program where I have learned various methods on how to teach certain topics. In my student teaching experience, I have taught many phonics lessons.
In high school, I took public speaking courses where I received a grade in the upper 90s. In college, I took a public speaking course were I received an A. I am also finishing an education program through my school.
In high school and college, I have maintained higher grades. I understand that in order to do well in school you need to take extra time outside of classes to study. I have gone through a teaching program where I have learned many methods on how to teach students in a variety of ways, in order for them to learn the material.
