As a semi-retired Rochester City School teacher, I have taught ages Pre-K through adults. My experience has been in public schools, suburban schools, Catholic schools, Rochester Institute of Technology C-Step program and Monroe Community College. I have more than twenty years experience.
My teaching methods will closely follow the curriculum and syllabus used in the student's classroom. Textbooks and materials will be utilized from the student, my resources, computer websites, and public library materials. Lap top use is provided by teacher or student. Libraries offer online computer usage. Assessment methods and records are kept for each student along with teacher and parent written communication.
The atmosphere is always friendly and light hearted. I welcome open discussion on current events when relevant to course topic. I love teaching one to one. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a New York State certified elementary teacher Pre-k through 6th grade with over twenty years experience in education. I earned a Masters degree in Education from Nazareth College with a B.A. in History and Political Science from Virginia Wesleyan College. Presently, I am semi-retired and remain active by substitute teaching in elementary education.

As a NYS certified elementary teacher, I have extensive training and experience using phonics in reading programs. Phonemic awareness is integrated into the reading curriculum. Attention to student ability to sound and blend letters and words is the focal point in learning to read well.
