I am an experienced teacher and learning specialist. I enjoy working with students who need a little extra help to understand concepts that seemingly come easy to others. In fact, this is what I do all day at the school where I work. I am actually excited about math and science and writing. My hope is to ignite that same excitement in my students, and moreover to build a level of confidence that allows each one to reach his or her potential. I am especially qualified to work with middle and high school students. My daily experience working in a very competitive, college preparatory school has allowed me to hone my academic and study skills across the board. Fee is $50/hour if student travels to me (12 corners area of Brighton or public library in Pittsford or Honeoye Falls). Fee is $55/hour if I travel to student's home.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a masters level special education teacher with 15 years' experience. I teach at the Harley School in the Upper School, helping students with all kinds of deficits, including learning disabilities, difficulties with organization and executive functioning. Study skills and strategies are always a key component of my work with students, so I feel that I am well-versed in this area.
