About Brian

I am a college Instructor with an industrial art background, including illustration, print and web design.

I am an expert with all Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, After Effects, Premiere, InDesign, and 3ds Max as well.

I can also teach traditional art techniques. I was trained in digital process and traditional art.

With my many years of teaching and expertise in my field I can direct students through a regiment of skill building exercises, or I can address student interest and solve design problems for the student on the fly. Typically I can handle any questions or technique requests on the spot.

We can get you results and improvement no matter your skill level. It's not about where you're at, it's where you want to go.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Flash

I have been using Flash since version 1 and I have been programming with ActionScript 3.0 since CS3.
I have taught Flash at the college level for many years and have taken graduate level Flash classes.

Adobe Illustrator

I have been using Adobe Illustrator since 1994. I have used Illustrator professionally for preparing pre-press files for many years, most often flexography.

I have also used Illustrator for layout, technical illustration, developing vector graphics for flash animation and colorizing comic book art. I can even use Illustrator for developing graphics for 3D textures, since 3D is my favorite specialty.

I taught Illustrator at the college level for seven years.

I have not met anyone who is more advanced with the program, believe it or not! I had exceptional training when I was in college and have worked very hard since.

Adobe Photoshop

I have been using Adobe Photoshop since version 1.5, when there weren't even layers yet. I used pixel editing programs that predated Photoshop while I was in high school.

I have been using Adobe Photoshop since 1993. I have used Photoshop professionally for preparing pre-press files, image retouching, color correction, technical illustration, 3D textures (I can even prepare unwrapped graphics for ease of use in Photoshop) and website graphics. I am also an expert in scanning, levels and colorizing hand-drawn art.

I taught Photoshop at the college level for seven years. I can teach you the very basics of the program to advanced skills. I can also show you how to integrate Photoshop files into other Adobe programs for better workflow.

I've taken Drawing I, Drawing II, Drawing III and Figure Drawing at SUNY Oswego, all studio classes. I have also taken watercolor and painting classes, which aren't directly applicable but round out my training.
I draw in ink as well as graphite, natural charcoal and compressed charcoal. I taught studio classes in Drawing at ITT Tech. The class was called Rapid Visualization and it taught drawing concepts such as perspective, Isometric drawing and elevations.
While at ITT Tech I taught every class in the Multimedia curriculum.
I teach concepts relevant to the computer application of drawing, from resolution, color depth and color correction when scanning to photomanipulation, colorizing, digital photo correction and creating vector art in illustrator from hand-drawn artwork.

I've used Dreamweaver on the job since 1999. I develop and update websites every once and a while; my primary role is usually graphics and design. Lately I have been using Dreamweaver to update php websites for a few auto dealers in California.

I took photography classes in college and do professional photography for websites and products. I shoot with a d70 and I also specialize in image correction and retouching.

Web Design

I was Eyecom Intenet's web page designer from 1999-2000. This included all company sites and our client sites as well. I was also responsible for all product photography, retouching, color correction and output. I hand code HTML (4 strict and 5) and CSS. In my current business I create graphics for web sites on an as needed basis.
I also did a small amount of web development for Double D and Associates from 1998-1999. My primary responsibility in that position was 3D graphics and director applications.
