About Scott

I have tutored junior high, high school and college students in many mathematical subjects over the past 30 years. Specific topics include algebra, precalculus, calculus, geometry, trigonometry, and business and SAT/ACT mathematics. My formal education includes a BS degree in Physics, an MS degrees in Electrical Engineering, and an MBA. My tutoring style is to first listen to the student to determine the specific topic they need help with. Then, by examples, I show the student step-by-step how to solve the types of problems they need help with. Finally, by additional examples, I have the student solve problems and I offer guidance and assistance whenever needed. The pace of tutoring is therefore set by the student.

My tutoring methods for the SAT/ACT standardized tests, in addition to showing how to solve the problems, includes specific study tips that are particularly helpful for these standardized math tests. The mother of one of my students recently let me know that her daughter improved her math SAT score by 130 points. Mostly a testament to the student with a little guidance from our sessions.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Knowledgeable, easy to work with

I set up sessions with Scott to review college pre-calc to prepare for final exam. The sessions with Scott were very helpful. He was able to explain the methods in a way that made sense. I would certainly use him again for future classes. Thank you.
