In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a master's degree in elementary education for students with moderate disabilities, the coursework for which specifically focused on teaching students with learning disabilities like dyslexia. I have three years of experience as a special education teacher, during which time I have taught several students with dyslexia. I have experience providing intensive literacy interventions for students with dyslexia and structured, sequential phonics instruction. My methods for teaching dyslexic students involve explicit instruction of letter and letter combination sounds, phonics rules, guided practice reading leveled texts, and multi-sensory practice techniques.
I am licensed to teach elementary general education students as well as those with moderate disabilities. I have experience teaching both special and general education at the elementary level. I hold a master's degree in education (elementary education and students with moderate disabilities).
I have a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in elementary education. The coursework for the latter degree included classes specifically centered on literacy instruction. I also have three years of experience teaching literacy to elementary students.
My bachelor's degree in English required the reading of a wide variety of classic and contemporary literature.
