Hi, my name is Baldeo L. and I am an assistant teacher in Queens, New York. My mission statement is that all children can learn irrespective of race, religion or nationality in a safe and supportive environment when they are given tutoring by qualified personnel. With more than twenty five years of experience (15 years as a teacher in the Bahamas and 10 years as an assistant teacher in New York Public School), I have the knowledge and experience to tutor kids from Kindergarten to grade 6. I am certified to teach students from birth to grade 6 including students with disabilities in Math and ELA.
My work experience includes assisting in the planning and implementing the curriculum. Working in small groups with students who need extra help and conferencing with individual students about their goals and deficiency in their Math and ELA. In addition I also work with students to raise their reading level and improve their writing. I employ evidenced based strategies such as Graphic Organizers, Vocabulary Charts, Pictures, Technology, Manipulatives, etc. Moreover, I keep track of their progress and this data is used to help in the planning of lessons and the delivery of instructions that better service the needs of the students. Finally, my overall goal is to move students from one level to a higher level of cognition in Math and Reading. I am confident that my profile would make me the best candidate for a tutoring job. I am qualified to teach elementary k-6. I am a New York certified teacher with over 25 years of experience. I have a bachelor's degree and a master's. I am presently employed as a teacher at PS 253 in Queens. My areas of discipline are math, science and ELA. Currently, I am tutoring students on Sundays who problems in reading and math.
In the test I took on WyzAnt, I scored 100%. I use different problem-solving strategies to help students in finding a solution to solving a problem. I use visuals, manipulatives, diagrams, technology so that students can arrive at an answer in different ways
With twenty years of experience tutoring students in math and reading, I am the perfect candidate to teach reading to students. First, I diagnose the reading level of the students using diagnostic instrument such as Fountas & Pinnell. Then I develop lessons that target the child's reading deficiency using strategies, such as context clues, picture, questioning technique, etc. My goal is to increase fluency, rate of reading and comprehension and writing skills, etc.
I have passed the New York state test students with disabilities. I am working with students who have special needs.
