About Robert

Hi! I am Rob and I am currently a graduate student at University of Albany. I have tutored math both in high school and college. I have my undergraduate degree from SUNY Potsdam. I tutored through various departments both at SUNY Potsdam and University at Albany.

I am currently teaching a Preparation for Calculus course through Siena College. I love sharing knowledge and helping students get the same feeling from Mathematics as I do, or at least getting them to stop hating it and get an "aha!" moment. I hope to earn my PhD and become a Mathematics Professor one day in the future.

I posses an understanding of the material and the ability to pick up a textbook and help a student in need. Mathematics can be tough and it is by far not the most popular subject in school, so one of the responsibilities of the tutor to to make it look less terrifying and more enjoyable.

I not only enjoy helping students with math, but I also want you to enjoy math as well. After reading my profile, if you would like help with any mathematical work and you think we would be a good match, please let me know! I'm open to trying it out first before setting sessions in stone, and my schedule is as flexible as you need it to be.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have 5 years of tutoring experience in math, about 2 years of which is in secondary higher education.

Algebra 2

I have tutored High School Mathematics as well as calculus, which uses trigonometry a significant amount.

Calculus

I started Calculus as a freshman at SUNY Potsdam. After mastering the subject, I moved on to becoming a math major. Calculus is essential to all of mathematics, and education as a whole, and understanding it is beyond important. I have also tutored half a dozen students in both Calculus both in collect and on the AP high school level.

Chess

I have been playing chess for 18 years now. Last summer I started working at Usdan where I teach chess. I can do beginner to intermediate lessons, as well as suggest advanced level literature and apps.

Linear Algebra

I have a 4.0 in my undergraduate linear algebra course, and successfully achieved my B.A. in mathematics. I am actively interested in algebra as a whole, including linear algebra. I have also helped other students out with linear algebra before as a tutor.

Logic

Over the course of my undergraduate career I took many different classes, one of which was a introduction to logic class for freshmen. Additionally, I have my degree in mathematics through which I have been rigorously been trained to think critically and make sound logically arguments. I have taken 3 years worth of classes in which I had to explain step-by-step proofs for myself and the professor to grade.

Precalculus

I have tutored for several years and taught a Precalculus course at Siena college for Fall 2016. In order to best understand the subject of Calculus, one needs to go through a thorough examination of Precalculus first. As I have both learned and taught the subject I enjoy it immensely.

Provides Clear Understanding

After just a couple of sessions, Rob has been able to explain the material in a way that has given my son a clearer understanding of some of the concepts. He has been very flexible with scheduling. Rob is more then willing to increase the length and frequency of the sessions when my son has an upcoming test.
