About Dahlia

I have an A.A. degree in Childhood Education with a concentration in Philosophy from LaGuardia Community College. I am part of the graduating class of 2016 with my B.A. degree in English and Childhood Education from York College. I was on the Dean's list for the Fall 2013 semester and I was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, which is an international honor society for Education. I have my certification in Childhood Education grades 1-6, and currently work as a substitute teacher for the NYC Department of Education. I thoroughly enjoy working in many different schools and fulfilling my purpose of making a wonderful difference in the lives of children! I am currently a graduate student at Queens College pursuing my MsED in Special Education grades 1-6.

Throughout the years I've gained a vast amount of knowledge about the best teaching practices that helps students to build on their areas of strength and to improve on their areas of weakness. With 10+ years of combined experience working with students in elementary schools, private tutoring, internships, and completed student teaching placements, rest assured that your child would be receiving the tutoring services of an over-qualified teacher with a genuine interest in helping students to reach their academic goals. My two younger brothers, James and Lance, were my first two pupils as I taught them how to read and write back when we were all children!

I worked as a Math Interventionist/ Tutor for Rochdale Early Advantage Charter School and during my time there it was a pleasure to help build the skills and math abilities of my little math experts during the time that I was there. I've also volunteered for Jumpstart, which is a non-profit Americorps organization in which I was working with children in Pre-K to help improve their literacy skills and I completed 300 hours of service as well. I'm a friendly, respectful and a very patient person. I am thoroughly passionate about education and I look forward to having the honor of working with you and assisting your child in reaching their highest potential!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have an associate's degree in childhood education from LaGuardia community college. I have experience tutoring children in reading. I have experience working with kids from numerous internships that I was required to do in elementary schools. I have taken numerous courses in education as well, including math for children, child psychology, literacy for children and bilingual education.

Phonics

I've worked for Jumpstart, and during this time I helped students with letter and sound recognition of vowels. I also have an Associate's degree in Childhood Education from LaGuardia Community College. I also have done many hours of internships in elementary schools and I observed how teachers go about helping students to work on their phonics.

Personable and Efficient — I loved her method of tailoring the lessons to my child's needs. She wanted to make sure my daughter had fun while she learned. I also admire how positive and confident she was during our consultation regarding my child's needs and abilities. She reassured me and made me feel like I really made the right choice! ...
