I was born in Trinidad, West Indies. From my youth, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. The reason for this is, perhaps the fact that, both my parents were school-principals. In relation to my teaching career, I taught the General Cambridge Examinations (G.C.E.) Advanced Level in English literature, drama and general writing for 20 years from 1981-2001. I graduated from the The University of The West Indies, Trinidad with a B.A. in English & History. My students' ages ranged from 16 - 20 years old.
In August 2001, I was recruited to work as an English teacher in the NYC Public School system. My job was terminated in September 2012 because I did not complete my Master's Degree program in Curriculum design and Instruction. The reason for this was due to ill-health and depleted finances. In New York, my teaching license was in English K-12.
In relation to extra and co-curricula activities, I was trained by The Trinity College of Music from London, England to play the piano. After receiving training in Theatre Arts at The University of The West Indies, Trinidad, I became the drama-tutor for my schools in Trinidad and New York.
All in all, I have 31 years of continuous teaching experience. Also, on the 2011 NYC Teachers report card my success rating was a 96%. One advantage that I may have as a teacher is the fact that I have taught in two different systems of education - The British and the American. This experience has afforded me the opportunity to coalesce these two educational systems and design a practicum that has rendered deeper learning and a greater success rate.
It is my opinion that teaching is a noble profession and I see the classroom with my students as the pulse of society. Improved learning nurtures a better coexistence, which helps to propagate a greater society.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
