I am not officially a tutor, but a copy editor. I helped people, businesses, and students correct all written information. This is what I would like to do as a tutor: help students hand in the most grammatically and syntactically correct paper they can or to help adults learn the language. I worked as a substitute English teacher at a local high school some years back, and would enjoy working with students again. I also volunteered as an ESL teacher at the main Flushing library for a short time. Additionally, I worked with Japanese wives of businessmen to help them understand mostly colloquial English, so that they could interact with American people in their everyday lives. I remember phrases such as "catch a bus" engaging their attention.
I have no preference with respect to whom I teach. It can be a student needing help writing a school paper or it can be helping adults to better understand the language. Either way, I feel I have the ability to adjust my teaching methods accordingly. I would appreciate the opportunity to offer my skills in any learning situation available.

I’ve had a great experience with Rhea. I’m Polish and Rhea is my tutor who concentrates on my speaking. We work on my pronunciation, grammar and general speaking skills. I learn new words and phrases during our lessons. Rhea is very patient, a good listener and interesting to work with. She is always prepared for the lesson and brings good stuff for practicing. I am really enjoying the lessons and spend very nice time with her. I’ve seen her only twice so far but I feel more confident about using my English after every lesson. I would definitely recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
