I have been interested in technology from an early age. After completing an excellent technical education, I went on to retire from IBM Corporation, and then work for Nortel Networks. Accepted as a NY Teaching Fellow following the NYC 9/11 attacks, earned permanent certification in NYS / NYC as Math instructor and taught in Brooklyn (Park SLope) for 3 years. Since then I have been operating my own internet software and hardware business.

Over my various careers, I have traveled to many countries, have enough knowledge of Danish and German to be comfortable travelling in those countries with minimal need to speak English for basic survival. I am an avid lover of arts and music, a collector of DVDs and enjoys virtually all forms of music, Country to Classical.

Mathematics has been my minor for all my degrees. Permanent teaching certification in NYS / NYC.

Have been doing electronics since pre-teen days. Master's in Electrical Engineering, MIT. Continued interest in electronics, computers and media hardware as an adult professional.

CEO and sole owner of mediadogg Software LLC (http://www.mediadogg.com/shopping) where several of my software programs are marketed and sold. All programs are developed with Microsoft Visual Studio C#.

Having been a Middle School Teacher and Adjunct College Math Professor, I have had experience successfully interacting with students of all ages. Both my two sons have PhDs and are successful scientists. They might have been somewhat influenced by me, and I am so proud of them. :)

I think even more important than my math skills, would be my ability to relate to young children. I have two sons, both of whom now have PhDs. And I have 3 grandchildren, ages 8. 6 and 4.

Thank you Otis. I also look forward to our collaboration.

Best tutor ever!!

Completed the assignment prior to the lesson and James helped debug and help create some of my GUI. James is very patient and helped me learn different ways to solve a problem. Best tutor ever!!

Lily, 1 lesson with James
Tutor responded:

My goodness. Thank you so much for the generous review. I have to say, it was a delight to have a student come to the lesson so well prepared!

Very helpful Visual Basic tutor!

First off, James was very prompt at replying and getting back to me when I first messaged him which I really appreciated cause my assignment was due on the same day I contacted him. When it got to the session, he was very patient and easy to talk to. He helpfully guided me through each question on my assignment and made sure I understood it. He knows what he's talking about and I wouldn't hesitate to suggest him to someone who needed help in Visual Basic!

Andrea, 1 lesson with James
Tutor responded:

Andrea, it was a pleasure working with you. And thank you for the generous comments. Your Windows skills and programming aptitude were quite evident, so our lesson was that much more efficient in helping you improve your Visual Basic skills.

Great Teacher

James R. made me feel confident of his abilities at the very start of the session. I am so happy I found a tutor of his quality and dedication. He was prepared and very attentive to my needs as a student.

Keesha, 3 lessons with James
Tutor responded:

Thank you so much, Keesha. My goal is to help you increase your confidence as well. Each new engagement offers me the opportunity to benefit from a fresh perspective. "The best way to learn, is to teach," as they say.

C# expertise is A1

James was patient. He explained the lesson and concept clear with a few homework examples. I felt confident to attempt to complete the homework assignment whereas before I had some serious concerns to do the assignment correctly. James eased those worries and help me to realize I did understand some of the concepts and he added on more. I was building confidence and comfort in trying C# on my own Thanks to James. I appreciate his willingness to simplify coding language for beginners in C#. I'm very comfortable with his delivery.

Tab, 2 lessons with James
Tutor responded:

Thank you Tab. I look forward to watching your confidence and skills grow. And as I tell all my "students," the greatest testament to my success as a tutor will be when you are able to "fly solo" for an increasing number of complex assignments.

Knowledgeable tutor

James is very knowledgable and always available to help. He always responds fast and will take time to make himself familiar with the assignment. And he always responds if you have any question on what was done. My assignments were pretty long and complex, but he was able to help me dissect them and work on them step by step. I can honestly say I couldn’t have made it through half of this class without his help.

Hankassi, 10 lessons with James
Tutor responded:

Thank you so much for your generous comments. Throughout history, time and money have been valuable to most people. I try my best to make the best use of both for my students.

Insightful and experienced C# tutor.

James has been a pleasure to work with and is an extremely knowledgeable tutor/programmer. His ability to explain programming concepts to someone new to C# has been vital to my understanding of the language. In addition to explaining C# definitions and how they interact in an application he takes the extra steps to teach how to optimize coding and application development. He is highly recommended.

Will, 11 lessons with James
Tutor responded:

William, I enjoyed our sessions. One of the perks of tutoring (actually teaching in general), is that even the teacher learns and enhances skills by collaborating on the challenges of the lesson objectives. I look forward to working with you again.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

James is an excellent tutor. He is very patient and really helps you understand the concepts. He is willing to walk through code with you and answer any questions you may have, which is extremely helpful for beginner coders. If you want a great tutor, hire James!

Pam, 15 lessons with James
Tutor responded:

Thank you Pam. It was a great pleasure to help you be successful in meeting your goals.

Excellent 90 minutes
