About Devin

My name is Devin L. and I currently teach Global History, sections one and two, as well as American History to high school students. I've been a teacher since 2012 having taught students with emotional disorders and English language learners while on scholarship in France. I have a Master's degree in Special Education from SUNY New Paltz where I also worked as a research assistant studying education policy.

Even though I love having my own classroom I find tutoring just as enjoyable. I find that I have the ability to move further along in the material this way and I can differentiate the lessons to meet each student's learning needs. We all have a different style of learning and it is my job as both a general education and special education to determine how you learn and tailor lessons to your strengths.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or would like to schedule a lesson. I am free mostly in the evenings during the week. I can do lessons on the weekend as well, but I prefer to work during the week and leave the weekends to rest up so that I have enough energy for you and my students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I am a certified History teacher in New York state and I currently teach American History in a charter school in Newburgh, New York. I received my Bachelor's Degree from Marist College, which is an approved teacher educator program. Moreover, I've worked in the FDR Presidential Library in Hyde Park, New York studying wartime policy between the Vichy Regime and the American government.

Elementary (K-6th)

Even though my teaching certification is in adolescent education, there are many cross-overs between the two fields. I got my start as an educator working for two years in a residential treatment facility for elementary age students and I was a teacher assistant in a kindergarten class. I also used to teach violin to elementary students as well while I was in high school up until now.

English

As a certified History teacher and native English speaker I feel that I am qualified to teach this subject. I received a scholarship two years ago where I moved to France and taught English to middle school children. Additionally, I am well read and once worked as a special education teacher in an inclusive English classroom.
